Novice & Atom Kick Off Day

2016-09-27

Over 150 Atom and Novice players take part in Kick-off the season.

On September 24th the GKGHA and Queens University Women’s Hockey team hosted over 150 Ice Wolves Novice and Atom House League players at the Strathcona Paper Centre in Napanee in what was a Kick-Off to their season.

The Kick-Off was each player’s first ice session of the year with their new coaches and teammates. This first taste of Hockey for the 2016-2017 season was augmented by a fun filled day spent with the Queen’s Women’s Hockey team.

Queen’s Players were dispersed amongst the Ice Wolves and spent the whole morning with the teams. This special event was set up like a mini hockey camp where fun and learning was at the centre. The Queen’s players enjoyed the experience as much as the Ice Wolves girls.

Queen’s Head Coach Matt Holmberg lead the on ice sessions and was flanked by Queen’s Assistant Coach Morgan McHaffie and GKGHA Development Coordinator Michael Hermer. Liz Kench was the lead off ice instructor and the Novice and Atom Convenors Lori McGriskin and Chris Turcotte coordinated all the arrival and logistics.

GKGHA President Deanna Bennett was on hand to support the players and families in whatever capacity was needed.

A big thank you to Coca-Cola who sponsored the day by supplying the Ice Wolves and Queens Gaels players with Dasani water and Powerade.
