Bantam DS Team Wins Gold in Brampton

The Brampton Canadettes Tournament is the world’s largest and longest running female hockey tournament. The Kingston Bantam DS team provided a solid team effort in all areas of the ice throughout the tournament.  They completed the round robin, quarter and semi finals allowing only one goal against, having never trailed in any game to earn their berth in the tournament final. The tournament final would provide another exciting and close game, where they would meet for the second time in the tournament the Waterloo Ravens. The Ravens were out to redeem themselves having fallen 1-0 in the round robin to the Kingston Bantam DS team. Kingston scored first and early to go ahead 1-0 over the Ravens at the 6:11 mark of the first period. The Waterloo Ravens later scored in the first and teams were tied after one period of play. Though the score was tied after one, excellent goaltending, dominant play and puck possession separated Kingston from Waterloo. The Waterloo Ravens were not going give up or go away easy: they stepped up their play in the second period, scoring a second goal, to go ahead and take the lead 2-1. This was the first time in the entire tournament Kingston had trailed. It was not until later in the third period that Kingston would tie the game. The tie would hold throughout the remainder of the third period as well as the overtime period. A shootout would decide the winner and Maggie Airhart would score the only shootout goal and her third goal of the game to win the game and Championship for the Kingston Team. Congratulations girls on a fantastic performance!
