Kingston Jr’s Secure 1st Place in the PWHL

2019-02-12

Kingston Jr. Ice Wolves in top spot of PWHL

With a 4-1 victory over the Barrie Jr Sharks on Sunday, the Kingston Jr Ice Wolves secured 1st place and won the pennant in the 20 team PWHL. With the win on Sunday the team improved its record breaking season to 27 wins, 2 losses, 4 ties and 1 overtime loss and a sparkling .868 winning percentage.

In addition to winning the pennant, the Ice Wolves, who have never finished in the top 10 since entering the league in 2012, could make their mark as one of the top 11 teams in the 15-year-old league if they were to gain seven of the eight points up for grabs by the end of the season. A perfect eight points would lift the Ice Wolves into the top 8.

“Our team has been so focused, and we are very proud of their maturity at focusing on the job at hand and doing our best to look no further than the next shift” said head coach Troy Sweet

“We are very pleased and happy with what our hockey club has accomplished to date, but I know we are not satisfied.”

“It is always our goal to be No. 1 when we set our goals at the beginning of the year. The team has worked very hard and smart while coming together as one to continue to strive to meet our goals and this is one step closer for them.”

“There are a lot of great teams in this league, and we are very honoured and proud to be mentioned and in the same league as others that have accomplished this in the past,” Sweet said.

“As you know, it takes everyone on and off the ice with this hockey club, association and families to give our team the support we need to have the best opportunity for success and we have that here on our hockey club.”

Next up, the Kingston Jr’s host the Cambridge Jr Rivulettes this coming Friday at 7:30pm, Swish Pad and Etobicoke on Sunday at 12:30pm, Swish Pad.  The team will be honouring the graduating players and billet families so come on out and cheer them on.
